Nottingham mooting winners
- 24th February 2010
Talented law students at Nottingham Law School have won an international mooting competition in Paris.
LPC student Alice Eldridge and BVC student Philip Godfrey beat 43 university teams worldwide to win 1st prize earlier this month. Just two UK law schools competed this year.
Their winning performance involved preparing written representation plans and oral advocacy against the clock. The 5th ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition took place over five days with teams of 2-4 students each with a coach/mentor. Nottingham’s mentor was Joy Davies, a principal lecturer at the law school who specialises in dispute resolution training.
Joy Davies says: “It was very intense. A great deal had to be achieved in a very short time and with very little sleep. I am so proud of them. We are grateful for laptops and for our helpful hotel with printing facilities available late into the night!"
The ICC competition was initially created to train student lawyers in dispute resolution in today’s cross-cultural market and tests their skills in a simulated international commercial mediation context.
