Mayer Brown Offers Trainees £10,000 to Postpone their Start Date
- 19th July 2012
Mayer Brown has offered its 2013 intake of trainee solicitors £10,000 to defer their training contract for one year.
In 2009, the firm had put back the start date of its NQs without any financial reward. This time round of the 47 future trainees, three have agreed to take the year out and pocket the £10,000.
It’s the second firm this month to announce such measures. Wragge & Co had offered its 24 future trainees £5,000 if they took a year out before starting with the firm. In this instance, all trainees declined the offer.
With Dewey & Le Boeuf in administration, is this perhaps a sign of more tough times ahead in the legal sector?
What would you do? Pocket the money and take the year out, or reject the offer?
