  • LPC aptitude test warning

  • 22nd October 2010
  • A compulsory aptitude test for potential LPC students could lead to only ‘clones’ being chosen for entry into the legal profession, according to the chair of the Law Society’s equality and diversity committee, Sue Nelson.

  • The possibility of introducing an aptitude test for law students wishing to get onto the LPC is currently being considered by the Law Society as a means to limit the numbers taking the LPC.

However, Sue Nelson, said: “Solicitors do a massively diverse range of work, from the most cerebral ivory tower thinking to virtual social work, and no single test can reflect this.”  She said such a test could only produce clones fitting the same rigid criteria “recruiting only cautious personalities, for example, at the expense of risk takers, entrepreneurs and those with people skills”.
