  • LPC and BPTC providers raise fees

  • 11th February 2011
  • The major legal training providers have revealed they are increasing their course fees, with BPP to charge £15,750 for the Bar Practice Training Course (BPTC).

  • In justifying the rise, Peter Crisp, dean of BPP, said: “The increase in the BPTC fees this year reflects the resource-heavy nature of the programme. For example, we now teach advocacy in small groups of four students to one tutor – we believe that our staff-to-student ratio is unmatched by other providers.” The College of Law (CoL) is to charge £15,375 and the Kaplan will charge £15,450 for the BPTC.

LPC fees have also gone up, with the CoL charging £12,550 and BPP charging £12,900.  The news comes as a double whammy for aspiring lawyers as NatWest announced this week it is withdrawing its funding for law students under the Professional Training Loan Scheme for the LPC, BPTC and GDL.  The Royal Bank of Scotland has also withdrawn its loan schemes for law students.
