  • Leeds Metropolitan wins mooting competition

  • 02nd April 2010
  • Two GDL students at Leeds Metropolitan University have won the grand final of the first ever Beachcroft Mooting Shield, organised by City firm Beachcroft LLP.

  • Twelve teams of law students competed over a six month period, culminating in last week’s final in which a team from Sheffield Hallam University also took part.

The competition tests students’ skills in drafting and advocacy in simulated court proceedings, and was open to universities throughout Yorkshire and the North East in a drive to boost law students based in the region to break into the legal profession.

The winners, Tom Royston and Stephen Dudley, now have a week’s work placement at Beachcroft to look forward to.  Tom also won the prize for Best Overall Mooter for his performance throughout the competition.

After the win, Tom said: “It has been fantastic to be part of the competition, reach the finals and absolutely incredible to have won. It is a really interesting competition. We've had a great amount of support from our fellow students at Leeds Metropolitan and from our coach Natalie. Overall we've had a great time and it's fantastic to know that all our hard work has paid off.”
