  • Lawyers go back to school

  • 01st March 2010
  • A new volunteering scheme involving small to medium sized law firms has been set up, linking lawyers with local schools in economically deprived areas.

  • The scheme, set up by the Citizenship Foundation, gives an opportunity for both qualified lawyers and trainees to talk about the law and legal issues with school pupils.  The various issues will include discrimination, consumer law, employment, human rights and youth justice.

Volunteers will get a real insight into the lives of local youngsters and the issues facing them and their community.  And the pupils will gain an awareness and understanding of the law.  When a suitable firm has been matched with a local school, the lawyers and trainees are trained and given specially written, interactive resources to use with the pupils.

The sessions will fit around normal class schedules at the schools and all participants will be supported by the Citizenship Foundation.
