Law student cries wolf on racism
- 11th May 2011
A US Law student who accused police at the University of Virginia of racial profiling has admitted that he fabricated the story. Jonathan Perkins had initially written to the university law paper claiming that he was hassled by the university police as he returned home from a party because of his race (Jonathan is African-American).
He felt compelled to write into the paper because we wanted his fellow students to “hear a real-life anecdote illustrating the myth of equal protection under the law.” It turns out though he made up the story to “bring attention to the topic of police misconduct.”
We’re not experts in drawing attention to topics over at AllAboutLaw but we’re fairly confident there are other ways of doing so without jeopardising your future law career.
