Law Student called a “slut” by US Radio Host
- 14th March 2012
A US Radio Host has labelled a law student “a prostitute” for testifying in favour of institutions covering medicinal contraceptives in their health insurance plans.
US Radio Host, Rush Limbaugh, called third year Georgetown University law student, Sandra Fluke, a “slut” after she testified to a US congressional committee.
Sandra Fluke has been campaigning in support of Obama’s ruling that institutions, notably religiously affiliated hospitals and universities, should cover medicinal contraceptives in their health insurance plans. Without insurance, birth control prescriptions could cost as much as $3,000 (£1,893). She presented the case of a fellow gay student who was unable to get birth control through Georgetown’s Student Health Plan to control her ovarian cysts.
Earlier in the week, Limbaugh made the following inflammatory remarks about Sandra Fluke:
"What does it say about the college co-ed Susan [sic] Fluke who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex," he said.
"It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."
He later followed this with:
"If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch."
He has now apologised for his comments, sheepishly admitting, "my choice of words was not the best."
You don't say.
