Law Soc/Law Works pro bono partnership

The Law Society has entered into a three year partnership with LawWorks Pro Bono Charity which brokers free legal advice by solicitors for both individuals and community groups who cannot afford to pay for legal help but are ineligible for legal aid.
The charity works with legal professionals including law firms, in-house lawyers and law students and, in 2009, provided free legal advice to more than 40,000 and around 350 organisations.
Law Society chief executive Desmond Hudson said: “Pro bono can never be a substitute for a properly funded system of legal aid. Since time immemorial our profession has reached beyond professional requirements to embrace social responsibility.”
The creation of the partnership also marks the completion of a successful Law Society funded project at LawWorks to support the development of pro bono programmes in law schools.
