  • Law School wins top award and offers iPads to students

  • 09th December 2010
  • Northumbria Law School has won a top national training award in recognition of the success of its hands-on training initiative.

  • The award was made at the 24th annual National Training Awards UK Ceremony, held to celebrate those who have achieved outstanding success through investment in training, learning and development in the workplace.

Northumbria won the National Training Awards 2010 “Winner of the Year” - the only law school to have been honoured with the award.   The university’s scheme is designed to operate like a real solicitors’ office, under the supervision of experienced lawyers, and enables students to provide free legal services to the general public.

Professor Philip Plowden, Dean of the School of Law said: “We are thrilled that the Law School has been recognised with the NTA Winner of the Year Award. I know we were competing against some excellent projects from large companies from across the UK, so winning is a huge achievement. The award reflects the general excellence that is the hallmark of our work in the School.”

Meanwhile, LPC students at the university are to be given iPads as part of a research project looking into their use in education as a platform for teaching and learning.  The project will also explore how they are used by legal professionals in practice and will start with the September 2011 intake.
