Law firms attracting students earlier
- 01st June 2011
A selection of law firms have begun setting up various schemes to attract students earlier on than the standard second year of a law degree. Slaughter & May has announced an open day event aimed at first year undergraduates, joining Hogan Lovells, Ashurst, CMS Cameron McKenna and Simmons & Simmons in providing opportunities earlier on in the process.
It seems largely due to resourcing issues that many firms are still reluctant to join this current group, with others also citing that students at this stage are often unsure of what paths they are looking to take. As such, the programmes currently offered are largely shorter than the standard vacation schemes offered for second year law and final year non-law undergraduates.
With many firms now looking to reach students earlier on in the process, not only within the legal sector but in many other professional industries, this particular issue seems set to be become an ever more prominent area for consideration.
