January divorces booming
- 06th January 2010
Post-Christmas marriage breakdowns are expected to peak this month thanks to the combination of the usual seasonal pressures and the effects of economic downturn, says the Law Society.
January sees the highest number of people filing for divorce and Robert Heslett, Law Society President, says: “Divorce is stressful, the legalities can be complicated and emotions can cloud reasoning.” He urges those affected to take clear legal advice from an expert. Divorce lawyers are reporting a boom in divorces and record numbers are expected to end their relationships before the end of the month, partly fuelled by wives of wealthy men.
A survey of 100 City analysts, stockbrokers and hedge fund managers by city law firm Mishcon de Reya has revealed that some wives will be filing proceedings ahead of a recession as they try to secure cash from their wealthy husbands.
