Innovative new networking site
A new student network is being launched
- 24th September 2009
A new student network is being launched this week enabling law students to attend networking events.
The Law Students Network, founded by five former College of Law students, aims specifically to provide networking opportunities including talks by experienced lawyers. Law students will gain invaluable insight into the legal profession, and will also have the opportunity to contribute to topical discussions on aspects of the profession.
Founding member and chairperson, Abeje Gordon, set up the Network based on her personal experiences at university. She explains: “During university a lot of students are not given the opportunity to interact or meet as many people from the legal profession as they need to. Alternatively, if students do meet industry professionals students are not always clear on how to follow up a contact effectively.”

The Network is currently based in Birmingham but its long-term aim is to expand nationwide. Abeje says: “The vision for the network in the long run is to potentially expand to different locations across the country such as London, Manchester and other cities. For now it is based in Birmingham with a particular focus on the Midlands.”
But she emphasis that students across the county can still attend events – with membership open to all students in the United Kingdom. The first event is a talk on How to be an Effective Networker at DLA Piper’s Birmingham office on 30th September.
Both undergraduates and post-graduates, including non-law students, may join the Network at an annual fee of £5.
