  • Herbert Smith traineeship withdrawn after assessment failure

  • 22nd December 2010
  • City law firm Herbert Smith has withdrawn a future trainee’s training contract after he failed a ten minute interview assessment.

  • Roll on Friday (www.rollonfriday.com) reports that the trainee, who has a masters degree and was sponsored by the firm for both the GDL and the LPC, failed a short assessment required by the SRA.

Earlier this year, the firm rescinded two training contracts after the students failed a paper by one mark.  The firm’s standard response in all three cases remains the same: “The current terms and conditions in our offer of employment clearly state that students have to pass all elements of the LPC course at the first attempt. We look to apply this policy on a consistent basis but do take into account any genuine mitigating circumstances before making a decision."
