First anniversary for Legal Advice Clinic
- 24th September 2010
A free legal advice clinic is to celebrate its first year of providing legal work to the public as it re-opens after a summer break.
The free Legal Advice Clinic at the University of Leeds Law School has already won a Higher Education Student Volunteering Award for its services after dealing with nearly 100 enquiries.
The clinic gives free legal advice to both students and members of the public on legal issues including housing, debt, employment, contractual disputes, consumer disputes and some areas of family law. Clients are interviewed by law students at the university under the supervision of a local solicitor; and are advised of their legal position in writing and what steps they should take.
The scheme helps both less well off clients, and law students who gain valuable practical experience and transferrable skills which will be useful on their CVs.
