Firms reveal training contract retention rates
- 03rd August 2011
Law firms have started to release their autumn retention rates for the upcoming NQ (Newly Qualified) trainees and the signs are looking positive. Shearman & Sterling kicked things off back in June when they announced they would be retaining 11 of their 12 trainees.
Following this, Herbert Smith will be retaining 44 of their 55 trainees (80% retention), Berwin Leighton Paisner will be keeping 19 of 20 (95%), Hogan Lovells will keep 24 of 33 (73%), Macfarlanes 22 of 24 and Slaughter & May will be keeping all 59 with one of the only 100% retention rates out there.
Unfortunately obtaining a training contract is only half the battle. In many ways the two year training contract is an extended interview for firms to train you up and make a judgement on whether you’ll fit into their company so it’s important to look into retention rates.
