Fast track to a Will-writing career
- 01st December 2009
LPC and law graduates will soon be able to fast track to a will writing career with the creation of a new BTEC qualification.
The BTEC, created by the Fellowship of Professional Will writers and Probate Practitioners (in conjunction with Edexcel), is currently being piloted by Tom Murcell who is hoping to become the youngest will writer in the UK.
Under existing legislation, only solicitors, trust corporations and individuals trained in probate practice by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers can professionally undertake probate work. However, from next year following the Legal Services Act 2007, individuals who are suitably qualified will be able to offer probate services.
Will writing is currently an unregulated profession and no formal qualifications are required to set yourself in business as a will writer.
