  • Domestic violence victim wins award

  • 29th January 2010
  • A law student who has faced domestic violence and homelessness, but went onto set up a support referral system for victims of domestic violence, has won the joint accolade of Xcel Student of the Year and Law Student of the Year (says the Lawyer2B).

  • The awards held in London last week reflect Tara Webb’s personal battle with domestic violence and homelessness before she started at the University of Greenwich.  The annual Xcel awards are sponsored by CMS Cameron McKenna.

Webb, who says she was just eight years old when she witnessed her mother’s boyfriend trying to stab her with a knife, faced homelessness at the age of 17.  She went on to find temporary accommodation and pass her A’levels and then get a place at Greenwich University.  She now has a place on a summer vacation scheme at Camerons later this year to look forward to.
