Demand for pre-uni private tuition

An increasing number of students are taking private tuition to prepare them for the rigours of university life amid concerns that schools are not preparing them adequately for study after A’ levels.
Fleet Tutors, a private tuition company, has reported that undergraduate students were the fastest growing sectors on its books with students seeking extra help to bridge the gap between A’ levels and university study.
Clients have, for instance, particularly sought help in structuring long essays of up to 5,000 words or to fill in gaps in students’ knowledge to prepare them for their chosen undergraduate course. Reforms to the A’level system a decade ago enables pupils to resit exams to improve their grades before university but the policy has been criticised for failing to prepare students adequately for university life.
