  • CPS recruitment freeze

  • 21st April 2010
  • The Crown Prosecution Service is rumoured to be putting a freeze on the recruitment of legal trainees for the second year running.

  • It comes after it was reported that the CPS’s training principal has taken voluntary redundancy.

A CPS spokesperson could not confirm or deny the freeze on its graduate recruitment programme although he confirmed that a general recruitment freeze has been put in place across the organisation.  The spokesperson said a final decision will be made shortly regarding legal trainee positions.

Last October, the CPS suspended both its trainee solicitor and trainee barrister recruitment programme after a crackdown on public spending whilst saying it fully appreciated the critical importance of bringing in new talent to the organisation.

In recent years, the CPS has offered between 25 and 50 legal trainee places receiving around 2,000 applications each year.
