  • CoL staff to raise cash for breast cancer

  • 28th April 2010
  • College of Law tutors and staff are preparing to raise money for a breast cancer charity after the support a colleague received while suffering from the illness.

  • They are training for a 20-mile Pink Ribbon Walk and are also preparing to present a series of law seminars locally to raise £5,000.

CoL tutor Janice Collino who teaches Business Law and Commercial Law on the LPC,  was supported by the charity, Breast Cancer Care, while she completed six months’ treatment for breast cancer. Janice, who successfully completed her treatment, says: “This charity gave me the strength, understanding and optimism to come to terms with my cancer diagnosis and treatment.  Entering the Pink Ribbon Walk is my opportunity to give something back, and I am deeply touched that so many of my colleagues are generously supporting me in this, either by walking with me, or by taking part in fund raising events at the College."

The seminars will take place on May 18, 20 and 25 at the CoL in Guildford and will update local lawyers on the legal issues surrounding equality in employment, the planning system and probate and wills. The hour-long seminar will cost £15 each with the fee going to charity.

Sheila Bramley, director of  the CoL in Guildford, said: “We felt that it was very important to join Janice in raising as much as money as possible for this fantastic cause and, in so doing, to remember family, friends and colleagues who have been affected by this disease. We have had great support from staff and students in our fundraising activities and we are really looking forward to taking part in the Pink Ribbon Walk.”
