College of Law launches advice lines
- 13th November 2009
The College of Law has launched new employment rights advice lines to be manned by students and employment lawyers. The lines were launched during National Pro Bono Week and will offer free legal advice on employment rights to employees.
The new advice lines are at the College of Law’s London Bloomsbury, Manchester and York centres. Lindsay Ward, Senior Pro Bono Co-ordinator at the CoL says: “These schemes allow students to get experience in dealing with real cases and also help the local community. Students gain valuable first-hand experience of client relationships, legal research and drafting while at the same time benefitting people, who may otherwise not have access to legal guidance.
“We have launched them during National Pro Bono Week to attract more solicitor volunteers and to raise as much awareness of them among the public as possible.”
Meanwhile, the College of Law’s Chester centre has been praised during Parliamentary Question Time by the Solicitor- General Vera Baird QC MP for its pro bono work, aimed at the local community and North West region with schemes which include a Legal Advice Centre.
