  • A College of Law student is abandoning his use of electric lights at home for a week to promote a new campaign for the charity Oxfam.

  • The charity is asking people to give up something people take for granted for a week, or to try to live like those in the third world.

Peter Elliot, 23, who is studying on the LPC at the CoL in Piccadilly Gardens, has admitted he is not finding it easy living by candlelight.  He said a candle only emits so much light, and cooking has been particularly difficult.

Peter is blogging each day on his challenge.  In his first blog he writes: “So why did I choose to not use electric lighting at home? It will not solve poverty but will make my life considerably more difficult (but not to a debilitating extent). No, the reason why I am doing this is to raise awareness.” To read the blog visit http://povertychallenge.21publish.com/peterelliott.
