  • CoL offer priciest LPC in Bristol

  • 11th February 2010
  • The College of Law (CoL) has the priciest full-time LPC in Bristol, costing £10,200 from September - more than 10% higher than its other rivals.  BPP Law School, which recently opened its Bristol branch, is charging £8,995 this year, with the Bristol Institute of Legal Practice (BILP) charging £7,860.

  •

BILP recently partnered with Central Law Training (CLT) to create the National College of Legal Training (NCLT), which offers a cut-price, part-time LPC costing just £5,900.  This is nearly half the cost of part-time LPCs offered at the CoL and BPP.  NCLT is aiming to launch other similar courses in Manchester and the Midlands.

CoL chief executive Nigel Savage justifies the fees saying the College does not compromise on quality.  He explains: “We’ve invested in a fantastic new building in Bristol’s Temple Quarter offering students a state-of-the-art working environment, which complements the College’s cutting-edge teaching technologies.

“We have established ourselves as a leader in e-learning in the industry and this combines with unrivalled levels of face to face teaching from our highly motivated staff, all of whom are qualified lawyers.

“Our students can be assured of the best possible start to their legal careers. For instance we have 22 career advisers for our students across the College including Bristol, whereas most universities have only two or three for the entire university. Last year 88% of our students obtained work in the legal services market.

“Some of the other providers are discounting - that raises the question which services are they removing in order to provide the discount?”

The College is also charging £10,200 for the LPC at Birmingham and Manchester.  At Chester and York the fee will be £9,830; at Guildford £10,530 and London £11,870.
