CoL exam mistakes
- 08th July 2010
The College of Law (CoL) is in the news once again for more administrative problems in some its recent examinations.
There were errors with three exam papers including identical questions from a specimen exam paper distributed for revision, and a whole paper having to be replaced. The exams affected were employment law, commercial dispute resolution and tort.
A spokesperson for the CoL told AAL: “In the Employment Law exam, unfortunately the first five multiple choice questions were the same as the specimen exam paper given out for revision purposes. This was identified during the exam by both tutors and students. These questions have been discounted in the marking and so this will not impact on the students' results.
“Regarding the Commercial Dispute Resolution exam an administrator in one of our centres handed out an exam paper to a student instead of advance reading by accident. The mistake was realised very quickly and the College replaced the CDR paper in all centres with a reserve paper, which we always have ready for such cases. Therefore the security of the examination was not jeopardised.
“Finally to the Tort paper, two of the questions were similar however the College does not believe that this will have any impact on students' performance in the exam. However we are monitoring this issue during the marking process and if it is found to have impacted on results we will implement exam moderation.”
