Call to scrap fees cap
University fees are back in the headlines this week with calls to scrap both the cap on university tuition fees and the Government’s target of getting 50% of under 30s into higher education.
Birmingham law firm challenges University of Birmingham injunction
01st February 2012Students that began protesting in an abandoned university building last November against increased tuition fees are being represented by Public Interest Lawyers.
The university obtained a high court injunction that prevents protests being staged by students involving occupation. The firm believes however that the court order may criminalise any protests that involve individuals remaining in a location for any length of time.
Currently, any student that breaches the ban could face a fine or potentially even imprisonment.

01st February 2012 A university law student is to be taken to court after Stan Collymore contacted the police following ‘racially charged tweets’ from Joshua Cryer. A final year law student at Newcastle University, Mr Cryer sent via @joshuacryer1 (now deleted) “has anyone ever called you Stan ****ymore” and “has anyone ever referred to you as semi pro as in a semi pro ****”.

Law school fees continue to rise
24th January 2012 The Bar Professional Training Course at the College of Law has had an increase of £800 for students planning to undertake the course in September 2012. Students will now pay £16,140 if they wish to take the BPTC at CoL, in comparison to the £16,540 charged by BPP or £15,800 by Kaplan Law School.
