  • Bristol Innocence Project loses murder appeal

  • 19th January 2011
  • Bristol Innocence Project, a pro bono programme run by Bristol University, has lost its fight to overturn the conviction of a man found guilty of the murder of a 79-year-old woman.

  • The UoBIP had worked for five years on the case and was given permission to appeal because of its analysis into the forensic evidence that resulted in the conviction.

Gabe Tan, assistant director of UoBIP who headed up its investigation, said: “We’re obviously very disappointed by the decision of the Court of Appeal to uphold the conviction of Simon Hall. We have been working on the case since 2006 and done much research on the fibre evidence, finding it to be both flimsy and unreliable.”  He said the UoBIP will continue to fight for Simon Hall’s innocence.
