BPP fiasco won’t happen again
- 01st June 2010
Peter Crisp, chief executive of BBP law school, has said that steps are in place to ensure that over-recruitment on its BVC will not happen again.
Crisp, speaking to the Times legal editor, Frances Gibb, said: “Obviously we regret what happened. But we’ve learnt the lessons . . . and put systems in place to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.”
Last year, BBP over recruited on the BVC by 54 places, leading to an inquiry by the Bar Standards Board and a fair bit of bad publicity including suggestions that the law school is motivated by profits. BPP denies this.
Crisp told the Times: “A lot of students apply for Bar training but may not take it up. We weren’t aware that acceptances would rise. Recruitment is an art, not a science; the year before we under-recruited.”
He adds: “We get the best students: nearly 25 per cent have first-class degrees. It’s a huge testament to the education we provide.” And he believes BPP is coming through the tough times and says morale is high among students.
