‘Big society’ effort at Foot Anstey
- 18th February 2011
Trainee solicitors at solicitors firm Foot Anstey have braved the cold to raise money for international disaster relief charity, ShelterBox, with which it works closely.
The trainees at the south west firm camped out for two nights in groups of six on the rooftop of the firm’s Plymouth office - in a ‘ShelterBox’ that normally supplies a large family of up to ten people with a tent and essential equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless. The firm came up with the idea after a visit to the charity’s headquarters, where the trainees were given an insight into how the charity operates, providing assistance to victims of disasters across the world, delivering boxes of aid to those who are most in need.
The trainees raised most than £1,810 and one trainee, Tobias Hole, said: “We’ve had an amazing response from both within the firm and externally.” He said the money raised so far will buy three ShelterBoxes to keep families secure in a disaster stricken country. The firm is aiming to raise a grand total of at least £2,000 with an online donation page still open for donations at www.justgiving.com/Shelterbox-Survival
