Barristers and solicitors could join in practice
- 25th November 2009
Barristers will be able to become partners in legal disciplinary practices (LDPs) following a historic meeting of the Bar Standards Board.
The BSB also considered recommendations on alternative business structures (ABS) in relation to how barristers could practice following the Legal Services Act, but any decision on this is to be deferred until the Legal Services Board has issued further guidance.
Lady Deech, the BSB’s chair, said: “We understand that the time has come to allow the bar to operate in different ways to suit the public. It’s good for the public and for the rule of law.”
Legal executives have been permitted to join solicitors as partners in LDPs since earlier this year. ABSs will be introduced from 2011.
