- 21st July 2010
An aspiring barrister in London has recently won a prestigious human right internship at the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. Charlotte Bailye, a BVC graduate from the City Law School, beat 100 other applicants with her 4,000 report on forced marriages and honour killings in Pakistan.
The competition was organised by the Human Rights Lawyers Association (HRLA) which will publish Charlotte’s winning report later this year. Charlotte, who starts an M.Phil in Criminology at Cambridge University in the autumn, will spend a month in Lahore working closely with the Commission and have the opportunity to work with Justice Majida Razvi who is Pakistan’s first female High Court Judge.
She has previously worked with the Iranian and Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation in London, a charity providing support and guidance to victims of domestic and ‘honour’-based violence and forced marriage.
Professor Susan Nash, Dean of The City Law School, said: “We are delighted by Charlotte’s achievements in securing a prestigious internship with the HRLA. This kind of success serves to further underline both the calibre of our students and graduates and the breadth and quality of training they enjoy under our first-rate teaching staff.”
