  • Bar National Mock Trial Competition

  • 17th March 2010
  • The final of the annual Bar National Mock Trial Competition is to be held in Edinburgh on Saturday (20th March) at the Court of Session, bringing together teams from schools across the country.

  • The competition is organised by the Citizenship Foundation and is in its 19th year, involving over 2000 students, 300 barristers and advocates and 90 judges nationwide.

Students have been preparing two cases for the 2009/2010 competition, drafted by practising barristers covering relevant and topical issues including possession of drugs with intent to supply; and criminal damage at an environmental demonstration.  The competition puts to the test the argument and reasoning skills of the participants representing the prosecution and defence.  Students take up various roles including lawyers, witnesses, Court Clerk and Macer.

The Bar National Mock Trial Competition gives young people the opportunity to have an insight into the workings of the legal system.
