AGR says trainee positions will fall
- 26th January 2011
Graduate positions in law will drop this year according to a recent survey, but employers are generally reporting an 8.9% rise – suggesting the graduate market has turned a corner.
The bi-annual survey of the Association of Graduate Recruiters’ (AGR) also reveals that the overall number of graduate vacancies rose for the first time since the recession and is expected to rise by another 3.8% during the current recruitment season (2010/11).
According to the survey, the overall increase is being led by the consulting and business services sector but law and the public sector are seeing a reduction in graduate positions. Carl Gilleard, chief executive of the AGR, says: “It is heartening to see that after so many months of misery for graduates, the job market is finally picking up.” Aspiring lawyers will be hoping the job market for legal training positions will follow quickly.
