A week of pro bono

This year’s National Pro Bono week is under way and will end with the LawWorks Student Conference 2010 on Saturday at the College of Law in Birmingham.
National Pro Bono week comprises nationwide events organised by law schools, law firms and law centres, celebrating pro bono work undertaken by an increasing number of lawyers and law students, and the impact of pro bono work.
Martin Curtis, project manager for students and law schools at LawWorks, said Saturday’s conference “will encourage the exchange of ideas and facilitate networking between students and law school staff so hopefully everyone will leave with at least one new idea and the enthusiasm to carry it through”. LawWorks is a charity that provides free legal help to individuals and community groups who cannot afford to pay for it but cannot access legal aid.
