New survey reveals state of post-grad job market

Law firms are among the most generous post-graduate employers with an average graduate salary of £37,400. According to a survey of employers by market researcher, High Fliers, this is a massive increase of 29% from the 2006 average.
However, the survey reveals a record number of students finishing their studies this summer will face particularly fierce competition for jobs. A quarter of graduate jobs have already been taken – by last year’s graduates. Graduate vacancies in law firms alone have fallen by around one sixth.
The survey, the Graduate Market 2010, reveals that leading employers cut their graduate recruitment by 25% between 2008 and 2009 and there is a massive backlog of job-hunting graduates.
