Hi,
I’m GDL, we are told by our tutors if you are a mature student and GDL smaller firms like you over and above the traditional route, otherwise there is no advantage as such. In fact I wish I was on a 3 year degree, the GDL is an extremely heavey workload, we do all 7 core areas in 9 months, the third year undergrads in my lectures tell me they are doing 2 and the dissatation this year, we have a research project as well, plus you do the ELSM in two weeks at the start and must pass to continue (the undergrds get a term to do the ELSM), there is your work load comparision! LOL
In addition the GDL costs at least 4,500 for which you cannot get a student load, just a professional loan, factor in the cost of your undergrad fees plus 8,500 for your LPC! Personally all in all I think it makes sense to go the undergrad route, not an option for me unfortunately as I did my undergrad 11 years ago!
The GDL is much more focused on applying the law to practical legal problems, whereas as an undergrad you will be expected to look more at the theory and philosophical/moral aspects of the law. Good luck making your choice.
