Are man bags acceptable?

I was thinking of buying a man bag, a black leather man bag. As an aspiring lawyer, Barrister I might add, do you think, in your opinion, such an accessory could improve others perception of me?

I await your kind thoughts.

Baz are you serious? Unless you are Italian… No way. Plus I’m not sure it goes with your football, urgg beer vibe.

Man bags are fine. my boyfriend has one. Boys listen in, the ladies like them… ok?

I don’t think I could pull it off to be honest. I think it would fall on how much of a dreamboat the guy is really!

Depends on the style I think…i have a leather man bag, but its a bluey colour and is a casual style not a formal bag and thus think it is fine!

Probably ok, I should think ... as long as you remember that golden rule of fashion - bag and shoes must match at all times, so probably best if you steer clear of pink rhinestone encrusted bags. Hope this helps. grin

lol at Miss Law smile  I think man bags are perfectly acceptable these days.  It’s all in the way they are carried though wink

Ha ha ha ha ha ha…..just give me a few seconds to compose myself !

Man bags are never a good look - they say that you are trying too hard. I had a very honest discussion with a good friend who was buying a man bag and do you know what he carries around in it - a book he doesn`t have time to read and a bottle of water to keep himself hydrated ????

It`s like the Emperors new clothes - people will tell you it looks great but pretty much everyone will pass a not very kind judgement on you as you walk past - similar to those passed on men who wear bad toupes, b***tard shoes and achingly trendy eyewear ( please God not all at the same time ! ).

Sensible advice from a sensible but stylish woman - Put the man bag down ! Carry a lovely money clip or delicious wallet for your funds, a slim folio for your paperwork and struggle ever so slightly with your purchases bundled in bags or your overburdened arms - it reeks of vulnerability for us gals ! You`ll score big time !!!

Ouch! I guess that’s a no then!

Maybe you’re right about the man bag but a money clip?! The issue there is you actually need money to clip!

I do like the reference to ‘overburdened arms’ however, nicely put!

Ok, so apart from ‘geek chic’ as you describe, any other suggestions? Cowboy boots?!

Posted: 29 October 2009 10:00 PM

Actually now I think about it the money clip is a tad Victorian…

As for more suggestions I think cowboy boots must go on the “no…No….NOOOO !!!” pile. I`m feeling that you could be male so how about a really nice hoodie with some surfer pants / shorts for casual with a nice pair of converse ( hairy legs go well with this look….mmmmm ! )

For posh - a slim fitting suit, single breasted and a really crisp short collared shirt, shiny shoes !

I`m actually a career changer doing law but I may have picked the wrong avenue…..fashion princess ? ha ha ha !!!!

I was reminded of this thread recently cos I watch Coronation Street. (I really fancy Big Bad Tony with the evil eye) This man bag, Barry; it’s not a Roy Cropper type man bag you were originally thinking of, was it?
