I’ve been to a few law fairs. General tips:
- find out which firms will be attending; research them online so that you know which firms to target (you won’t have time to speak to them all on the day)
- research the firms you want to speak to (e.g. when are they recruiting for, areas of law, size, whether secondments abroad are possible etc)
- dress smartly (not a requirement, but first impressions count so try to be remembered for looking the part rather than looking a mess!); personally I wouldn’t wear a suit
- don’t ask questions that are on the firm’s website / obvious (do you take trainees? do you do employment law? etc) as this will show that you haven’t done your research
- shake hands and thank the recruiter for their time
- later that day, write down who you spoke to (you can take notes when speaking to them, but make them brief) as otherwise you will forget!
Also - most firms at law firms are large rather than high-street, so are less likely to accept CVs; online applications are the norm with larger firms.
Hope this is of some help!
