Hi all,
I really want to convert into Law, but with the current climate and the sheer quality of graduates, I’m starting to realise the magnitude of the competition! My decision to do so has developed over time, with me specifically taking a year out to consolidate my decision. My plan is to apply for the GDL in October/Nov so to start in 2011. However I really need sponsorship- but with the such competition for these training contracts- am I wasting my time?
I studied Geography at the University of Manchester and I got a high 2.1 (annoyingly I was 1 percent off a first). I also got an A and two Bs at A level, with an A in General Studies (which I know they don’t include). As I am taking a year out, I am currently gaining legal experience at the Citizens Advice Bureau where I am training to be a generalist advisor. I have also arranged work experience at a high street firm. I will also apply for vacation placements next summer.
My question is essentially whether or not I am appealing to Law firms as a candidate for a training contract? I am slightly concerned about my A Levels. I know my marks are decent, but it seems everyone has As! I was annoyingly only marks off getting As in the subjects I got Bs in, but I went to a very poor sixth form (teaching was appalling and most students did not go to University) who would not get my final exams remarked, so I suppose I did the best I could in the situation.
So to conclude, I am of the right calibre?!
