As we all know, getting a TC is tough. So what if a firm offered you the chance to work for them for free? Not with any hope of getting a TC with them - simply because it would help your CV and be better than sitting at home crying over the TC you don’t have! This seems to be a bit of an issue at the moment as there are so few TCs available, and lower than usual trainee retention rates.
I think if I had finished my LPC / BVC with no TC / paralegal job / pupillage etc, I would work for free (at least for a month or so) whilst looking for something better (ie. paid). Better for the CV, and earning nothing whilst being busy is better that earning nothing whist doing nothing.
(This hasn’t happened to me - I’m just wondering how desperate people are!)
