Hello everyone,
I am an overseas medical graduate and currently in a full time job in the UK. I have nearly 4 years experience of working in the NHS. I am currently doing GDL on a distance learning programme.
I entered GDL to improve my CV to get into a medical speciality involving forensics. However having met people from different other fields in the programme, I am tempted to consider options in Law - medically related and otherwise, but I am finding in very difficult to get much info regarding the same. I have tried internet, career advisor at my university but cannot find much help.
I know my case is quite different to most people visiting these forums but would be grateful if anyone who knows more about the following issues could help.
1. Being in a full time job, it would be difficult for me to do any placements. Will that affect my future chances?
2. Having done my graduation in medicine in another country, will I be at a disadvantage with regards to the grades as I am marked in percentage and not sure how much it would amount to in 2.1etc. scores used in the UK?
3. Are there any firms which would prefer people like me?
4. I am also working towards my post graduate degree in Medicine and would like to finish it at all costs, which could mean here could be a break of few months between finishing my GDL and starting LPC. Will that put me in any disadvantageous situation?
5. I am advised by my university career advisor to start applying for training contracts now itself. As I have just started with my course work and not decided on what particular field to pursue, can anyone suggest how can I be more selective.
6. Are there other career options apart from the solicitors route for GDL +/-LPC?
Please excuse if I bored you with my long note.
Thanks for your suggestions in advance.
