    LPC Law School

London Metropolitan University was established in 2002 when London Guildhall University and the University of North London merged. The resulting institution is the capital’s largest unitary university with 10 departments offering over 400 courses.

The University has a reputation for being culturally diverse with approximately 8,000 of its 34,000 students being international, coming from over 150 different countries. In addition to students, the University has 3,300 members of staff.

The institution has achieved recognition at the highest levels both nationally and internationally for its academic standards and for the quality of the facilities provided. In particular the Law School, which is one of the largest of its kind in the United Kingdom. It boasts approximately 100 specialist members of academic staff based over its two campuses, offering a large range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.

The University as a whole is made up of over 20 buildings on 2 campuses. Some of its most notable features include a £30 million science park, a graduate centre designed by the acclaimed Architect, Daniel Liebskind and a technology tower housing over 700 computers.

There are also seven libraries, an international standard sports facility, a state of the art flight simulator and 3 nursuries for students with childcare. Pretty comprehensive we think!

The Law Department itself benefits from a specialist law library providing a wide range of books, legal journals and access to various online resources. The specialist law librarians are always on hand to offer valuable assistance if required. The Department also has its own IT facilities and undergraduate centre.

The mock courtroom is situated on the City campus and is home to the annual mooting competition, providing students with the opportunity to present arguments in a way that will prepare them for the future. The London Met LPC is base at this campus, allowing for easy access to the debating chamber!

The London Met LPC seems to place particular emphasis on the practical aspects of training, placing its graduates in a particularly strong position when entering practice. Their performance is reinforced by the recent Law Society grading of the school, awarding the LPC the highest possible grading in 5 of the 6 categories assessed. Pretty impressive stuff we think.

As with all other LPC providers, the London Met LPC teachings the 'skills' of drafting, writing, interviewing and advocacy along with the core subjects. The electives offered are as follows; commercial, corporate finance, intellectual property, employment, family, child, private client, housing and immigration law.

The University is set in the heart of London and is therefore on the doorstep of some of the city’s most impressive museums and galleries. You will never run out of things to do or see living in this exciting city, which is extremely well connected with a reliable tube service and regular buses running through the night.

Course fees for the London Met LPC are £8,000 for the full-time course and just over £4,000 for the part-time option. With regards to extra curricular costs, you will have the opportunity to join various clubs and societies, all of which require an initial membership fee. It is highly recommended that you join the Law Society as it is a valuable resource both academically and socially.

The University itself has its own social venues, for example The Rocket Complex and The Sub Bar, which have received good reviews and have been listed in Time Out. As the university is situated in the heart of the city, you will find a wide range of pubs and bars near the campus, many within the budget of a student.

The University has regular activities going on – both academic and non-academic, legal and non-legal. There are regular guest speakers (for example George Galloway MP) who come in to give presentations. These are great opportunities to learn more about different industries and the working world in general, something definitely worth taking advantage of!

The University is very supportive of its students and plenty of advice and assistance is offered when it comes to considering further study and/or future employment. In fact London Metropolitan University itself offers the LPC and other post-graduate law courses.

As for the careers centre, it provides everything you would expect from a well-funded service; CV workshops, application advice and interview preparation techniques. On the whole, a very nice little package!
