The School of Legal Studies at the University of Wolverhampton is one of most progressive law schools in the country. The School is the fifth largest law school in the country and has over 30 years of teaching experience of providing relevant, dynamic, and different legal education.

The University is very highly regarded in the legal sector and has particularly impressive connections to the legal industry. The University has major links with international Law firms such as DLA Piper and Eversheds and it also has links with local law firms such as Talbots.

The law building itself is of an average size and houses all lectures and seminars on the GDL. Over 15 computers are available to students in the law building as well as a great many more in the nearby Harrison Learning Centre. The School has one big lecture theatre and various smaller rooms for seminars and group study.

The library is well equipped for law students, however due to the popularity of the course and hectic periods during the term, the library operating a week long loan. The library also has many Law journals and statute books that really are essential when it comes to the specifics of the course.

The Law section of the library is equipped with chairs and tables along with individual study carrels which you can book for the added peace and quiet whilst enjoying you legal education.

The Wolverhampton GDL can be taught either for one year full-time or for two years part-time. For full-time students, your attendence is required for around four days per week; part-timers will have to attend two evening sessions per week.

As with all other providers, the Wolverhampton GDL focuses on the seven core subjects, these being Constitutional, Criminal, EU, Land, Contract, Tort and the law of Equity & Trusts. You will also have to carry out an independent research project in an area of law other than the ones studied within the foundation modules.

The school itself is located in the heart of Wolverhampton, with the town centre only a 5 min walk away (particularly handy when you want a break from studying). The School is located very close to the Molineaux football stadium, the wonderful home of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolverhampton is positioned to the North West of Birmingham, about a 20 minute train ride from the centre of Birmingham. The university is very well connected to both North and South, standing just a few minutes of the M6 (junction 10).

Course fees for the Wolverhampton GDL stand at £3,070 for the full-time option and £2,500 for part-timers. International students are charged £9,000 for the full-time course and £4,500 per year on the part-time option.

Law society membership is £20 for a year but the calendar is jam packed with legal fairs, legal trips and various other legal activities.

Wolverhampton has a particularly lively club scene, with the newly renovated Ocean nightclub dominating proceedings and regularly offers student discounts. The students union is also reported to be excellent and is highly competitive when it comes to drinks and promotions.

The law society organise annual trips to Inns of court and House of commons along with day trips to Law fairs, all which are fantastic networking opportunities. The law society has a very hard working president who has a fantastic team at her disposal, all of whom seem to be extremely committed.

The Law society has worked hard over the summer to organise mooting, debating and (for the first time) Interview techniques. All the signs are promising so good luck to what shall be a fantastic Law society for the academic year 2008/2009.

The University Careers centre is the central point for all queries concerning jobs, applications and future study options. Regular workshops are arranged for tips on anything from LPC applications to interview techniques and CV writing. All in all, a pretty comprehensive package.
