The vacation scheme is your chance to work at a firm usually for one or two weeks. This vacation scheme section has tips and advice about obtaining a vacation scheme from people that have already done it as well as advice from the firms that will be offering you the chance to work with them.
Vacation schemes are an important step to getting a training contract, but if you can't get one, don't worry. Although it is necessary to have legal work experience the vacation scheme is just one way, shadowing lawyers, marshalling or working as a legal clerk can also be useful. One important thing to remember is to perform well academically as this is often the only measure of competence a firm has.
