In a situation where academic qualifications will be uniformly high among candidates, the differentiator among the selection will be relevant work experience and evidence of extra curricular activities.
The firm looks for professional, , confident and committed individuals, who have good communication skills, thrive on challenge, and are flexible and good team players.
Aspirants should have a good grasp of the present-day business scenario, be able to analyze and provide simple, workable solutions to clients, show initiative, and in general, are self-starters.
The training contract is a combination of formal, structured training and practical experience which trainees will achieve through four seats of six months each. While a contentious seat is compulsory, the firm will try to accommodate trainees in departments where they have an interest, based on the availability of resources.
At each seat, the trainee reports to a supervisor who allocates work and monitors performance. Performance reviews are conducted mid seat and at the end of each seat, while feedback is a continuous and on-going process.
The structured training programme begins with the Professional Skills Course, covering finance & business skills, client care, professional standards, advocacy and communication skills. Additional training is provided in drafting, business correspondence, conducting negotiations and general management skills. Each department has its own special training programme which will cover in detail the specific skills and requirements, accepting instructions from clients, drafting communication and preparing case files and in doing the necessary research and resources available for the same.
Eversheds conducts vacation placement programmes during the summer.
The scheme runs for a period of two weeks in UK offices. Selected candidates will spend time in any two practice areas in the firm, getting a first-hand view of the work carried out and assist in completion of daily tasks allocated to them.
The tasks can include attending client meetings, court visits, drafting correspondence, carrying out research, etc. In addition, trainees will attend informal talks and discussions covering the firm, its work, the employees and detailed information on specialist and general practice areas.
Trainees will also be invited to attend a Corporate Society Responsibility event. Trainees who attend a Vacation Placement Scheme are automatically considered for a Training Contract vacancy. Assessment exercises will be conducted during the scheme.
Vacation scheme trainees are paid an allowance of £240 (London) per week during the course of the placement. For trainees taking the GDL & LPC courses, the firm will cover all tuition and examination fees and pay an annual maintenance grant of £7,000 for each of the courses if studying in London and £5,000each course for those completing the course in other locations, fees are covered in full.

Candidates are automatically invited to attend each test if successful at the previous step.. Candidates clearing the application screening and skills’ tests will then be invited to attend a telephone interview.
If successful at this stage, a candidate will then be invited to attend a face to face interview. The outcome of this interview will result in an offer of a Vacation Placement Scheme or an invite to attend an assessment centre, depending on the vacancy originally applied for.
The assessment centre will comprise of commercial role-plays, exercises testing analytical thought, logic and reasoning, preparing a sample letter draft and an interview. None of the above tests will require any knowledge or expertise of law, but are based on general knowledge and common sense.
