Our trainee solicitor blog writer is currently in the second year of his training contract at a medium-sized regional commercial firm. He has taken as direct a route into the profession as possible, having studied an LLB Law degree at university, immediately undertaking his Legal Practice Course upon completion, and finally, his two-year training contract, which he shall complete in August 2010.
He has been in the somewhat unusual position of training in a small, three-partner, niche commercial firm for the first year, which was subject to a takeover by a much larger and reputable firm at the beginning of his second year.
As such, our trainee solicitor blog will be providing a general overview of life as a trainee solicitor and an insight into training with these two different types of firm, together with some advice to current and budding law students with the much-desired benefit of hindsight.

Looking for the all-important training contract?
27.01.2010There are multiple opportunities available to you at university which all students looking at obtaining a training contract should think about exploiting. As I stated in my previous blog, whilst great academics are a pre-requisite, firms are looking for the additional activities that you have participated in, and extra skills that you have acquired, in your recent life. These factors, whilst they may seem insignificant to you, could be the icing on your CV cake to a recruiter and may lead to you being offered an interview, or even a position, over somebody else.

A very good place to start
28.10.2009Well I’ve been thinking about what to write for my first ‘official’ blog instalment and it occurred to me that I should probably just start at the beginning, the beginning in this case being higher education.
