  • And it starts again?!

    All About Law. | 19.04.2010

  • My study is about to take another gruelling month, in my preparation of my last two 5000 worded essays in International Banking Law and Carriage of Goods by Land, Sea and Air. In addition to this I am ploughing through my pupillage applications for the OLPAS and NON-OLPAS sets, before the deadline expires by the end of this month.

  • On top of this growing heap of work, I have yet to coin together a concise question for my master’s dissertation, which I aim to do in Banking Law as well as the materials I will be using to help me write it!  To battle through this tsunami of ‘things-to-do’, one needs to employ special commitment, effective time-management and lots of coffee! I am still endeavouring to find the first two, whilst gulping down a lot of the third!

I’ve also had a BPTC scholarship interview at Middle Temple last week, which was quite an interesting experience. I must admit, I was blessed with a friendly panel of interviewers consisting of a Recorder, a silk and a barrister. However I was careful not to exploit this amicable environment to become too comfortable and complacent.

During my interview, questions were tendered as to why I wished to do the Bar and what area of specialism did I wish to go into and why? Moreover I was asked about one of my mini-pupillages I had undertaken in the City and was asked to comment on the opening style of the Prosecution. The tough nut was what area of law did I wish to reform and why?!

Throughout my interview I was careful in what I said and how I said it, as I knew that I was being judged on every word I uttered in that chamber. The final discussion then encircled on the finances, which I had scribbled down on my form. I scrutinised it again as it was presented to me and believe it or not, I vaguely recognised it! A lesson to all for the future; make a photocopy of your application before you send it off.

I am now going to retire to my studies and I shall let you know how my month progresses in due time!
