Undergraduate life is over!
All About Law. | 03.06.2010Oh my goodness, I can’t believe it. That’s it. Yesterday I had my last ever exam (all being well) at Cardiff University, which of course meant that from 12pm yesterday it was party time! I’m not going to lie, this exam session has been one of the most stressful times of my life. I’ve been regularly stressed beyond belief, although I usually have a cool head and have a mere rush of adrenaline, rather than all-out nerves.
This year however seems to have been different...odd! All I can say though, is that I am glad it’s all over...phew! Post-exam, I went to Roath Park with some of my closest chums (naturally being Abdullah, Chris, Adam and the Law and German crew) to have some beers and a spot of rowing on Roath Park lake...it was bliss, I can tell you that. I did however manage to almost fall in, which could have been due to my severe inability to row more than the alcohol content in my blood.
The evening/night that ensued was brilliant fun, especially as we saw our good old Law and French counterparts and challenged them to a boat race, which we well-and-truly lost. The life of a post-exam Law student eh?!
I know that I have been pretty horrendous at keeping in touch (apologies), but things have been extremely hectic this end, with finals, Law Society events etc and general living. The Law Society has been highly active since we last spoke, having our annual Law Ball at City Hall, many socials, talks from UK law firms and my little baby, our ‘speed networking’ evening.
The Law Ball was just amazing. Everything went according to plan and it was wonderful to be in such a fantastic setting with some of the most fantastic people. It was of course a sad thing to think that it was our last one, but boy did we go out with a bang. The ‘speed networking’ event was great too.
We had 16 trainee solicitors come to our Law School one evening and we set up the tables so that one trainee was sat with one person at any one time and they had 5 minutes with each person...pretty much speed dating, but not. Do you know what I mean? Hope so.
Anyway, you’re probably thinking, well if he’s finished with his degree and is soon to be leaving Cardiff, what are his plans for the future. Well, I’m hoping that’s what you’re thinking, as I’m about to briefly tell you what I’ve got in the pipe-line for next year. You already know that I was in Canada in January visiting a friend and heading out to check out McGill University in Montreal.
Well, I applied and guess what - I managed to get a place (yeeeha!), so shall be going to Montreal at the end of August to start an LL.M. in international tax and business law. (Boring?! No it’s not!) I’ll keep you all updated as to how that pans out if I’m permitted to keep on going with this blog, as I’m sure you’re all dying to know how it goes.
Sad times this coming Monday by the way, as I shall be passing over the reins of the Law Society and shall thus become a former president of the Law Society. The great news is however, is that the Exec which was elected in in April is a very capable one indeed, headed up with one of the Law Society’s best people, Marcus Coates-Walker.
He will do a great job, I’m sure and I’m very glad that I’ll be handing over the baton (as it were) to a very capable and legendary chap. It has however been a great year and a nice old BBQ in Bute Park on Monday with the whole Law Society will be a great way to finish it. A couple of friends shall be popping over from Bristol for the occasion, which is brill...I’ll get in touch and let you know how it feels to have nothing to do in a couple of weeks’ time. I mean, I’ve gone from the stress of the exam session, getting up at 7am every day and going to bed late every night, whilst simultaneously running Cardiff’s largest society to now finishing exams and finishing my tenure as president of the Law Society all in the same week. What on Earth am I going to do for the next couple of month?! Well, you’ll just have to wait and see. A cliffhanger of an ending I know! HA!
Enjoy the weather everyone and good luck to everyone for any exams that you’re still to sit! Speak soon. Over and out.
