The work load is high as expected; on the first day I left school with a heavy wheelie trolley (never referred to a suitcase in this profession, apparently that’s like asking where Judge John Deed’s chambers are) which was full of books. I realised that my two-seminar-a-week undergraduate mindset must change. Fast. It is two classes a day now - civil and criminal, but once you get used to the timetable, the workload and the teaching, actually it’s not too bad. On occasions it has even been fun. Honestly.

One thing I have noticed more than ever before is that time goes incredibly quickly. Indeed, worryingly so at times. There is a lot of information to be learned and assimilated at a very fast pace, so for those of you that appreciate a personal rate of learning and generally having time to appreciate life, perhaps this is not the course for you.

But the battle must go on, and although challenging at times, so far my experience has been a positive one. I’ll keep you posted on my developing barrister-like skill and nature (watching CID-style programmes are a no-go anymore as my family really don’t care about the workings of the evidence rules) and hopefully you’ll follow me as the year plays out. I have a feeling that there will probably be more work involved than play, but one can always hope.
