About Us
Pass me the Soap box…
All About Law is just that. Everything you need to know about a career in law. We can take you on a journey from sixth form to employment and everywhere in between.
The idea came about after our own attempts to pursue a career in law proved anything but straightforward. Frustrated at the lack of information offered at every stage of a difficult process, our conclusion was simple. Let’s make something that helps people at every stage.
And not simply ‘which city firm should I go to?!’, we wanted to focus on every decision you might have to make from sixth-form to employment.
So who are we?!
Well I’m Paul and he’s Jack. I’m a History graduate that planned to convert to law and Jack graduated from the LLB Law and Human Rights a year after.
You could say we’ve known each other for a while. From the tender age of five Jack and I have gone to same primary school, high school and sixth form. Realising I could only spend so much time with him, I decided to make a run for it when university came along, heading South and Jack East.
For a couple of brief interesting facts, Jack has an unhealthy obsession with learning languages and I have a habit of dropping my mobile down the toilet.
Our story
Nov 2006
During my final year at university, I began the long-winded process of applying for training contracts and looking at the various Law Schools offering the LPC. I found the information anything but clear and struggled to believe that every firm and school out there was ‘brilliant, fantastic and amazing’ (god bless the glossy brochure).
Discussions with my uni careers centre and Jack, at the time my ‘friend that knows about law’, did little to address my confusion at the whole process. Having discussed the route with many others at the time, I found that they all shared the same issues and were looking for a solution.
Nonetheless, I had a degree to finish and some thoroughly interesting online applications to complete so all thoughts of addressing the issue were temporarily put to bed.
June 2007
Uni is finally at an end and I need to become a real, actual person. I spend some time (not a lot I’ll now admit) speaking to friends about this ‘law site’ idea that I’ve got when somebody asks me what will be on it? The line goes, ‘well it will have stuff all about law I suppose’. This may or may not have been the way that our name came about, but it’s a nice story don’t you think?!
Abruptly learning that the second word of ‘Student loan’ did actually mean something, I set about hunting a temp job to last me over the summer. It just so happened that Jack and I began working at the same place as ‘Hygiene Assistants’ (you may know this job title as cleaners). Whilst Jack and I swept our little hearts away, we spent three months bouncing ideas off each other on what this ‘All About Law’ thing was going to be.
Oct 2007
Jack heads back to uni for his final year and I get to work on mapping out the specifics of All About Law. It was during this period that I also became a connoisseur of (particularly strong) coffee. Three months pass, my eyes turn square-shaped and a plan is finally complete.
March 2008
With a plan in toe and a demo website complete, I hit the road to convince the ‘money’ men. After several pitches, some good, some bad and some downright bizarre, a nice chap called Vernon takes a punt. Initially ecstatic but soon sobered by the sheer amount of work ahead, I wave goodbye to ‘having a life’.
Oct 2008
Our Beta site finally launches! With Jack now on board and our many writers busy at work, we take the site to the students. It was also at this point that the first companies ‘took a chance’ on us. After meeting with Freshfields, Slaughter & May and Denton Wilde Sapte to demonstrate the site and its potential, all three decided to get involved. A big thanks goes out to these three companies for supporting us early on. There is little wonder why they do so well in attracting the top talent out there.
Feb 2009
Site numbers have taken a significant leap and we’re now the fastest growing law student resource in the UK. It seems to be working... and just so you know we're not fibbing check out Alexa.com the industry standard for site statistics.
